The Commission for Development Studies at the OeAD-GmbH has set its sights on mobilising the scientific capacity present in Austria for the sustainable strengthening of science and education in developing countries. More and more Austrian scientists make a valuable contribution to global sustainable development by means of scientific cooperation.

KEF was established in 1981 as the Austrian measure after the UN conference "Science and Technology for Development", which had convened in Vienna in 1979. KEF consists of members delegated by the sponsors, scientific members, members from the field of Development Cooperation and of international cooperation in science and research, as well as other members.
