Yet, this effort has always been constrained as there is little working knowledge about the suitability of native plants for the uses mentioned and also their propagation ecology. On the other hand, research findings showed that enclosures are very effective in restoring native woody plants without sowing or planting. The purpose of this project is, first to investigate the application of enclosures at the farm level, then study suitability of native woody plants with the preferred use of the household, and trace the principle behind the arrangement of trees on farms in the landscape. Accordingly, the wok is planned first to study the identity, diversity, use, and growing niche of native perennial plants along altitudinal gradient in selected areas; then study the potential diversity and colonization patterns through natural regeneration in fenced plots. Side by side, seed physiology and germination requirement across different temperature, light and moisture conditions will be studied in green house and laboratory. Through plant and soils laboratory analysis, the potential suitability of native plants for different purpose will be evaluated. The output will be scientific information about identity, diversity, use, growing niche of native plants, and their suitability for various purposes. Besides, insight about the basic organizing principle of plant communities in rural farms for better productivity, biodiversity conservation and enhanced ecological significance will be obtained.
The aims of the project are:
- Exposure of developmental researchers for technology and culture for copying, selling or buying of technology for local capacity building.
- Creating and strengthening of individual and/or institutional network among scholars, and/or institutions in both countries engaged in research and development.
- Carry out pilot studies with the aim of creating new business opportunities for entrepreneurs in both countries for the production of technologies proved appropriate at the local level.
- Generation of research findings and methodologies for further scaling up for improved natural resources management and improved livelihood.
- Joint benefit from outputs like from publications or proceedings.
