About 3.8 million people live in the Kadiogo region in central Burkina Faso. Due to the annually decreasing amount of precipitation, the thereby increased demand for drinking water and watering possibilities for agriculture, as well as problems connected to the pollution of aquifers, the consequences of which are not yet studied in sufficient detail, this area is an interesting object of hydro-geological research.

The project aims at analysing the groundwater situation and improving the quality of drinking water in rural and semi-urban areas on a long-term basis. The intention is to develop guidelines for an optimized water catchment programme, and to devise a model for water inspection and for the catchment of water and its protection in the Sahel.

The project aims are:

1. Cartographical census of fragmented systems and surface distribution of the water quality for determining the most suitable area for water extraction

2. Guidelines and recommendations for an optimized long-term water catchment programme

3. Guidance systems connected by charts, temperature-specific and chemical components for the identification of water quality
 
4. A model for water inspection

5. A general model for the analysis of water, its catchment and protection in the Sahel
