Political participation and solidary economics are social innovations from Brazil, which constitute an efficient approach to the fight against poverty. These innovations require a better embedding into pedagogical reflexion and interdisciplinary research.
The present project aims at connecting historical and current experiences in the field of popular education with new challenges and initiatives. In the context of the project, three seminars in three different regions of Brazil (Pernambuco, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul) will be organised with the involvement of various focus groups. In Pernambuco the focus will be on innovation politics and its impacts on the labour market and professional education and training. In São Paulo the focus lies on the field of solidary economy, especially on the initiative of the Kolping community in the periphery of São Paulo. In Rio Grande do Sul the participatory budget- which is also referred to as the school of participation- will serve as the basis for a broader reflection on the relationship between political participation and popular education. In the context of the seminars, political decision-makers, teachers and learners will jointly articulate and reflect on their experiences. The communication scientist Pia Lichtblau will function as a contact point in the context of a research internship on location and will support the Brazilian teams with the organisation and documentation of the seminars. She will further give lectures on the results of the other seminars and thus make them available as a basis for discussion. Austrian experts will participate in the final seminar.
The project aims are:
1. Promotion of a dialogue and reflection process between different initiatives by means of online discussions, information exchange, scientific articles, internet-based discussion forums and personal contacts
2. Exchange of experiences and cross-cultural learning as a basis for adult trainers, in order to increase the efficiency of the fight against poverty through emancipatory education.
3. Creation of a pilot project, which will be designed in collaboration with the concerned focus groups and which is supposed to lead to a joint follow-up project to be submitted to Austrian and Brazilian funding institutions
