Deputy Director Research
The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) seeks to appoint a Deputy Director Research to be based at the ISS head office in Pretoria.
The successful candidate will lead the development, management and oversight of the Institutional ISS Research Strategy and formulate dissemination strategies for all ISS research products. S/he will take the lead in research aspects of new office establishments specifically in West Africa, New York and Brussels. S/he will also serve as the editor of the African Security Review and oversee the ISS Knowledge management function. The Deputy Director Research will be responsible for all aspects of quality management processes of all ISS publications, website and multimedia. S/he will also guide the ISS Research committee; oversee the editorial team that manages the bi-monthly magazine, The African. Org. S/he will serve as part of the Management net Committee of the ISS and report to the Executive Director The successful candidate will also support the Executive director and Office Directors in the development of new research proposals that support the continental outlook of the ISS and review results based narrative reporting to partners.

Knowledge Management Advisor
MSI was awarded a three-year contract with USAID/Sudan on a project named SUPPORT (Services Under Program and Project Offices for Results Tracking), and tasked with the responsibility of executing functions normally associated with USAID’s Program and Communications offices.
The MSI KM Specialist is responsible for working with the Program Office to articulate Mission needs, and for translating those needs to the design team to tailor the Portal for Sudan. The contractor will take the lead to communicate Portal requirements and timelines, ensure that changes are made as/when promised, and verify that new features function correctly. Once the Portal is functional, The KM Specialist will identify qualified, short-term personnel to assist the Mission in transferring and organizing all historical files to the Portal. The KM Specialist will also be responsible for introducing the Portal to all Mission staff and USAID implementation partners, and providing the necessary training and support to enable all users to effectively utilize this new tool The MSI KM Specialist will provide to the Mission options for building an internal GIS capacity by surveying existing resources in southern Sudan and will be responsible for establishing relationship with organizations in southern Sudan to understand if a mutual relationship can be formed for the sharing of data.
The MSI KM Specialist will also be responsible for coordinating data flow from implementing partners to the Mission, keeping in mind the products required by the Mission and providing a platform where these products can be delivered.
