GDN has five core activities which aim at building research capacity in developing and transition economies.

These activities are:

1. Regional Research Competitions
2. Global Research Projects
3. Global Development Awards and Medals Competition
4. Annual Conferences
5. GDNet – The GDN Online Program

1. The Researchers database: Researchers register and GDNet then decides whether someone`s application is accepted or not based on an acceptance policy. The database holds information about the researchers and any connections to the Organizations and Papers database.
2. The Organizations database: is sourced by the GDN-staff. It holds information about development-relevant organizations and any connections to the Researchers and Papers database.
3. The Papers database: is also sourced by the GDN-staff. Every paper has to allocable to an Organization in the Organizations database. It holds a short abstract and a link to the full text version.
