The growing awareness of the limited availability of fossil fuels, as well as concerns regarding climate change, have triggered a world-wide boom in the production of so called ‘biofuels', based on agriculturally produced biomass.
Recent developments, such as dramatically rising food prices in developing countries, rapidly increasing biodiversity-loss due to monocultures, and high carbon and nitrous oxide emissions have put this complex topic on the agenda of scientists, politicians as well as the general public.

Online Lecture: "Agrofuels between Sustainability and Development - Interdisciplinary Analysis - Holistic Approach"
This lecture was presented by Viktor Bruckman (KIÖS) on July 7, 2009 at the International Symposium on Nutrient Management and Nutrient Demand of Energy Plants (July 6-8, 2009, Budapest, Hungary).
The event was organized by the Corvinus University of Budapest and the International Potash Institute (IPI).
The Lecture highlights benefits and potential probems associated in a wider context with intensive Biofuel production, particularly with regard to the question wether and under which circumstances Biofuel production could be a chance for developing countries.
