KEF aims at bridging the gap between science and development in supporting a development-oriented approach in research and science.
To facilitate this process, KEF both carries out and supports applied cooperative research projects with Austrian partners and partners in developing countries and acts as an advisory body to the scientific community, government bodies and funding agencies with regard to scientific issues of development cooperation.

• Supporting applied research that is development-relevant in its specific local context and based on partnership collaboration
• Mediating contacts with international organisations and (potential) partner institutions
• Awareness raising among the relevant partners in politics, science and the public through critical work in education and public relations
• Critical reflexion on the role of science and research, criteria of evaluation and ethical questions of sustainability research through events, research projects and publications

KEF perceives itself as an Austrian contact point for information and coordination for North-South-cooperation in the field of science and research and acts as a contact pivot for the cooperation between science and economy in Development Cooperation.
